In the Wake of accumulation of wealth, humans have converted every single thing into a commodity. There is a famous saying of Prophet P.B.U.H that if a man has 2 mountains of gold, he will wish for a third one. Nothing will fill the greed of a man but the dust of his grave. Humans took this beautiful planet of our as a mine where they have to generate wealth from everything and every matter. Morality and wellbeing of other creatures and fellow human beings is secondary, accumulation of wealth is primary objective. Humans like the pigs of ‘’Animal Farm’’ by George Orwell created a sense of uncertainty but what they didn’t know was that this uncertainty is extra ordinarily fertile and it will not just generate but create the capacity for more uncertainty. This uncertainty is understood very little by humans that’s why it’s called ‘’ uncertainty. What humans can’t understand becomes a source of fear for them and fear of something creates sense of enmity. This enmity has led to the security of future and every person tries to secure his future in any way possible without taking into consideration the consequences of it. Global warming is one of those consequences about which nobody is ready to think unless the repercussions of this global warming affect them.

Let’s take a look at current situation of global warming around the globe.

It is undisputable to claim that human activities are a major cause of global warming. The temperature of Earth has risen by 1.1 ^oC and if it crosses 2 ^oC it will become irreversible and the life as we know may become extinct. 

·         Forests are burning in Australia

·         Tornedos are turning land into lakes in America

·         Europeans especially Britain have realized for the first time what it looks like to live in 40 ^oC or above.

·         Icebergs are melting new diseases are being born. The old viruses unknown to mankind trapped for centuries in the ice are now emerging in the water we consume on daily basis.

·         Pakistan is as usual effected by floods half year and by droughts the next half year.

The worst thing is that this threat of global warming is not coming for Islamabad alone, it is coming for Beijing and Washington too. Yet nobody seems to be interested in it. We can see so called leaders of the world meeting every year under the name of Kyoto protocols or Paris agreement but there is hardly any progress regarding it. Since 2020 the world has been emitting 35 billion tons of carbon dioxide annually. The so called saviors of the world are busy in blame game and asking each other to act first i.e. U.S.A is demanding China to reduce its carbon emission which will definitely effect its economy and strategic position in new world order so it’s not ready to act first and demands U.S.A and Europe to act first on this behalf which are not ready as the immediate economic losses for them are too big in this capitalized economy. While they fight each other and I write about it almost 2400 trees have been cut down in a minute.

There is no play of morality here, the so called torch bearers of morality and ethics have no level to which they may fall for example the fraudulent case of Volks wagon regarding carbon emission is a world famous case.  Hence these countries are busy in you first game trees ae being cut and carbon dioxide being added into the environment.

This is the image of world we are going to leave for our next generation:

·         Oceans filled more with plastic than marine life itself.

·         More frequent pandemics than ever.

·         More concreate based cities than natural habitats.

·         Unexpected rainfalls and droughts everywhere

·         Years without winters (I wonder that 1816 is a year in our recent history regarded as year without summer) now we may see a century without winter in near future.

·         Sky filled with more metallic debris than stars.

·         Resource depleted Earth (As all of the resources would be converted into dollars)

That is the point where nature may take its revenge. Covid 19 was a wakeup call from nature by the way for humanity to mend its ways before it’s too late, but I guess we may need a bigger jolt than this or are suffering from short term memory loss, that we forget too early.

What can be done in this regard then?

One should not leave it to the governments to take action as they are bound by so called liberal economy and market pulls which will not allow cooperate democracies to act in the right direction, here we can teach our convey our message through example and demonstration ‘’Start planting yourself’’. That’s the best we can do. I took self-responsibility of preserving our homeland. That is our only known home in this vast universe and working for its preservation in itself is enough of a motivation. I am a strong advocate of build back green. We all need not wait for the governments to make legislation about it, one should work on this immediately to reduce the burden of climate change as every single tree counts. I started plantation as a thing to kill time when there was not much to do in times of pandemic and now, I have planted more than 200 trees in my neighborhood and this interest is growing day by day. I have gathered ample knowledge of native trees and how much time and food certain plants require for growth. Now it has become more of a passion. Not to forget that previous government of Pakistan had achieved many milestones in its struggle to fight climate change in the form of plantation drives, which also requires appreciation at least someone is vigilant about this modern monster that require modern and collective defense.
